Little Oaks Academy provides quality care for children 6 weeks to 5 years where from little acorns, mighty oaks do grow!
Little Oaks Academy is a public non-profit organization, which means a Board of Directors governs the Academy. We believe this organizational structure has an advantage over most other child care facilities because formal decision-making is informed by the collective expertise of parents, community volunteers, and staff representatives. Read our Parent Handbook for more information about day-to-day operations or see our Programs tab for an overview of our curriculum.
Our services are unique because we offer:
• A hands-on, evidence-based curriculum
• Structured, planned environments
• Teacher with B.S./B.A., CDA or TECTA credentials in each preschool classroom
• Loyal teachers-many with long years of service
• Regular child development assessments and progress reports
• A hot lunch and AM/PM snacks included in tuition
• Accommodation for special dietary restrictions
• A secure facility with coded access and finger-print recognition
• Extended AM/PM hours
• Open hours during typical inclement weather school closures
• After-hours family activities
• Open-door policy to parents wishing to visit
• An environment where breastfeeding is welcome
• Three large modern outdoor playgrounds
• Outdoor Nature-Based Classroom
• Children’s community garden
• Parent-led Board of Directors
Little Oaks Academy was established in 2014. While Little Oaks Academy was recently established as a public non-profit, the facility traces its roots back to 1967, when St. Mary’s Medical Center opened a child care program for hospital employees’ children. Over the years, St Mary’s changed hands to Mercy and then to Tennova, a for-profit hospital.
The Mission of Little Oaks Academy is to educate and nurture children in a safe, healthy, and stimulating environment where they are encouraged to learn and grow intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically. The Academy serves a diverse community with quality instruction based on developmentally appropriate practices.
